Ace shortened his name in his teens, wanting to cut ties from his biological parents and—after his grandmother's passing—his family entirely. His full name consists of his two given names, the name he took at confirmation (whilst under his grandmother's care), and his patrynomic surname. Now, he uses only his given names, adopting Zavala as his surname.

Ace is fluent with English, Polish, Russian, and Latin. He learned Russian from Belinda, who had family in Belarus. He learned Latin through his involvement with the church and through elective courses he took in college.

Ace and Belinda had a small fling in their freshman year of college, but ultimately broke things off. They maintained a close friendship to this day.

BACKGROUND.

Ace was born in a quaint neighborhood within Saratoga Springs, just adjacent to the tourist-filled areas of the city. However, despite the proximity to joy and magic, Ace's childhood was filled with everything but. While it wasn't a big deal to most, the fact his parents were unwed when he was conceived was enough to turn his father away from responsibility all together. As such, his father left the home a mere two months before he was born. Not long after his birth, as his mother did not wish to be a single mother struggling to provide for her child, she turned the young bab over to her mother to be raised. His grandmother gladly took him in, doing her best to raise him despite the complex, stressful familial environment the upheaval cost. His parents, primarily his mother, was constantly in and out of his life, only really there to reap what benefits she could from her mother before ultimately leaving when he was school-aged. As a result, Ace began to exhibit severe, antisocial behaviors.

Concerned for his wellness, his grandmother worked alongside local counselors and began taking the young boy along to church, hoping that being enveloped by a community with "good values" would allow him to adjust and better develop. And, to her relief, it did work. Ace took comfort in religion, and felt a strong communal bond with his fellow churchgoers. He would become a faithful teen, undergoing the confirmation process with his grandmother as witness, and taking on the name Peter, after one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus. Eventually, he would go on to study theology at one of the state colleges, moving out from his grandmother's home and into a larger city so that he could "find himself."

It was here that he found a new church to attend, and find a steadfast group of friends who would—later on—be the ones to invite and initiate Ace into The Magistri.

During his time in university, his grandmother would pass due to old age. Because of their bond, and due to his mother once again re-entering his life with the sole purpose of seeking the contents of her will, Ace had a difficult time coping with the loss. Freshly twenty, he would turn to many unhealthy coping mechanisms. Recreational drugs, self harm, binge drinking, disordered eating... It was, frankly, a miracle he didn't find himself dead with the amount of urgent care visits and blackouts. His friends—Belinda, Edgar, and Mason—would grow worried sick for him, and would consistently attempt to invite Ace to their 'Saturday night outings'. While he brushed them off at first, the weight of everything would cause him to cave, and at his lowest point, he would find salvation in the most unexpected of places. Upon bringing him along, Ace would learn that his closest friends were actually recruiters for a mysterious brotherhood known as The Magistri. When he inquired what was happening, they convinced Ace that, had he underwent initiation, he would be able to achieve anything he wanted. This, and he would be able to overcome the constant stress his family was putting him through—that he would be rid of them, should he accept their offer.

Led astray by his grief, Ace accepted the offer. He would quickly make his way through the ranks, undergoing numerous trials and tribulations to eventually become a recruiter alongside his compatriots. Being in this structured, tight-knit environment turned Ace into a highly charismatic, highly persuasive individual who can blend into most any social situation and gain the trust of those he talks to. In turn, he leads them down a sick, dark path toward unrewarding sacrifice. When he isn't actively recruiting, though it's arguable whether this is the case, Ace helps run a local radio station that the cult uses as a front to explain their income revenue and avoid the ire of authorities.
