Ace and Belinda had a small fling in their freshman year of college, but ultimately broke things off. They maintained a close friendship.
Born to an unwed couple in a quaint neighborhood, Ace had a disappointing childhood. His father had left the home a mere two months before he was born, and not long after his birth, Ace was handed over to his maternal grandmother to be raised. His childhood was rocky due to the complex, stressful familial environment, and as a result, Ace exhibited antisocial behaviors. Concerned, his grandmother worked alongside local counselors and began taking the young boy along to church, hoping finding a community to belong to (the church) would aid in his development. Ace took comfort in religion and had felt a strong communal bond with his fellow churchgoers. He grew into a charismatic, studious teen and went on to study theology at the state’s college. Additionally, moving into a larger city allowed Ace to ‘find himself’ by exploring various social situations and environments. He found a new church to mingle with and had found a unique group of friends who would—later on—be the ones to invite Ace into the Magistri.
During his time in university, his grandmother passed, and he had a hard time coping with her loss, more so when his parents re-entered his life seeking the contents of her will. Freshly 20 at the time, Ace turned to many unhealthy coping mechanisms, and few had given him temporary relief. One that still lingers to this day is habitual smoking to relieve intense stress. Seeing their friend collapsing beneath the stress, Edgar, Belinda, and Mason invited Ace to join them during one of their ‘Saturday night outings’. This quickly took a turn, though, as it was revealed to Ace that his closest friends were recruiters for a mysterious brotherhood known as Magistri. They convinced Ace that, had he underwent initiation, he would be able to achieve anything he had wanted and, in turn, overcome the constant stress his family placed onto him.
He accepted and quickly made his way through the ranks to become a recruiter for the cult. Being in such an environment has turned Ace into a highly charismatic, highly persuasive individual who can—to a degree—blend into society and gain the trust of most he talks to. In turn, he leads them down a dark path toward unrewarding sacrifice. As a day job, Ace helps run a local radio station that the cult started up. This is one of the few fronts the cult has to explain their income, and one they use to recruit the unsuspecting.
