BACKGROUND.
Alexey is a native inhabitant of Russia, born and raised in the bustling cityscape of Moscow. There were many positives to living in the city, though the downside was that the young Alexey was one of the first targets of the rapidly growing Soviet Union as they seized power of the federation’s government. As the regime grasped the city in its iron fist, Alexey and his partner, Nika, fled the city toward Siberia. The vast tundra was once reserved for the most severe of prisoners, yet many who defected against the Soviets fled to seek refuge among the sparsely populated snow.
Whilst living in Siberia, Alexey began to build a network of connections with the other defectors and ex-prisoners, hoping to be the one to lead some sort of revolution against the Red Army by not confronting them by force, but by slowly assassinating top ranking generals and politicians to weaken their power. Unfortunately for the duo, Alexey’s attempts were soon discovered by a spy for the Soviets, and the duo were brutally assaulted before being taken to the most infamous prison of the time. The two were labeled as national traitors and became prisoners of war, subject to intense mistreatment and abuses. Nika died while in custody, whereas Alexey had been let go under the pretense of being so mentally far gone after her death that he had learned his lesson and paid for his crimes.
Not long after his release from prison, Alexey realized that he had nothing to his name. The Soviets had taken everything while he was in custody, and this caused him to (regrettably) cut a deal with the government and take employment as a volunteer firefighter. He was sent across the country to work and reside in Pripyat, a Soviet-controlled town near the northern Ukraine border. This work had gone well until the Chernobyl disaster in 1968. Alexey, like many others, were part of the volunteer force that responded to the meltdown incident and inevitably suffered a plethora of major health effects due to inadequate equipment. Alexey was among the many firefighters who had arrived prior to the military and liquidators. Some side effects of his work included the discoloration of his eyes (the radiation altered DNA in many firefighters, turning their brown eyes to blue), a weakened immune system, external and internal radiation burns. Alexey’s case was so severe, his comrades and himself had believed he would die.
But he did not, and instead he returned to Siberia after collecting the few and far between benefits that “his” government had offered. Alexey was quick to re-establish his network and evade detection long enough to have his efforts outlive the Soviets. At some point during this time, he had wed another woman and had a son with her, though both left him and he had heard nothing of them since. Though, one day a young and drunken teen stumbled onto his doorstep. The teen was nearly frostbitten and, against his better judgement, Alexey took the teen in and raised him as his own, bringing him into the business. After taking out a particularly dangerous political figurehead, and the younger male nearly being assassinated by a rival group, Alexey learned that this teen he had taken in was in fact his own grandson. Alexey kept him close, and the two share a close bond with one another.
Nowadays, Alexey is the boss of a vast network of hired assassins that operates on the Deep Web. There are few and far between contracts that he will deny, and some that he will even personally take himself.
