Artemis’ stats are as follows:

Despite the weakness of their lungs, Artemis prefers using melee weapons as opposed to firearms.

Artemis will assume the identity of Alex Hawthorne as they see it beneficial, using dialogue and conversation to talk their way out of situations.

As the game’s plot progresses, the physiological effects of TTD begin to lessen and Artemis will utilize it more often within combative situations.

BACKGROUND.

Artemis is a colonist from the Hope, a ship sent from Earth to the colony of Halcyon to allow citizens a better life in space. However, the ship arrived too little too late, and the Board decided to keep all civilians suspended in cryostasis until they dealt with the food shortage and health crisis on Halcyon. Fortunately, or not so, depending on who one asks, a scientist named Phineas Wells discovered the Hope, reviving Artemis and propositioning them with a plan to save the colony.

They would come to work under his order, and would “stick it to the Board” by pulling off one of the greatest heists in the colony: Revive the Hope’s colonists by stealing an elusive chemical compound from the Board before seizing control of the Hope itself.

Artemis suffers from Tactical Time Dilation, an effect of their sudden revival. While they can slow time around them and give more time for decisions, they are also prone to dizzy spells, in which they’ll black out due to sudden and intense head pain and tinnitus that causes them. They often wake up with a bloodied nose due to the effects on the body. On top of this, being in a state of suspended hibernation (cryostasis) for nearly seven decades has left the colonist with weakened lungs due to the prolonged atrophy. Phineas’ efforts have helped reduce some of the effects the cryostasis has had on their body, and revive the lungs alongside other vital organs, but the colonist is still very quick to grow winded, often relying on Adrenol to help them recover after particularly straining tasks.

MAIN STORY

Stranger in a Strange Land: After being revived by Phineas Welles, Artemis finds themselves in control of the Unreliable after the unfortunate demise of the previous captain, Alex Hawthorne. On their path from the pod, Artemis tends to Guard Pelham’s wounds. Upon arriving at the ship, Artemis sees that other guards are being held back by the presence of Marauders in the area. They tell Lieutenant Mercer, that they aided Pelham back in the caves, and persuade the duo to help clear the area. Once clear, Artemis enters the ship and assumes the pseudonym of Alex Hawthorne from the ship’s AI, Ada, after learning the ship cannot fly without a power regulator. They make their way toward the nearby town of Edgewater, where they are directed to the office of Reed Tobson.
Comes Now the Power: After learning of the struggle between Edgewater and its deserters, Artemis decides to speak to the town’s vicar before heading to the Botanical Lab. Upon speaking to Adelaide and learning of the circumstances of the rift between the two factions, Artemis makes the tough call to divert power back to Edgewater and convince the deserters to return. Adelaide refuses to go back until Reed Tobson is out of the picture, to which she informs Artemis of the circumstances around their thriving community. Returning to Edgewater, Artemis convinces Reed that letting Adelaide lead the settlement is their best bet for survival, since she is the only one capable of nurturing harvestable crops in their soil.
Passage to Anywhere: Now that the Unreliable is powered up, Phineas Welles reaches out and tips Artemis in the direction of the Groundbreaker, urging the captain to speak with a long-term contact, Gladys. According to Phineas, the black-market fence can sell a Navkey to Stellar Bay, on Monarch. This key is vital to following leads on securing an important chemical needed for the revival of the Hope's colonists. Yet, when the crew lands, the ship is flagged and grounded by the Board. Artemis talks to Udom Bedford, and tells him that Captain Hawthorne met an untimely demise. With the ship ungrounded, Artemis talks to Gladys and receives a job investigating a distress signal on Terra-2. Artemis denies the job at first, saying that they'll see about paying for it the "legitimate" way. Despite this, and working to hire Ellie Fenhill onto the crew, they realize it's going to be impossible to earn the scrap. Realizing it's easier than trudging up 10,000 bits, Artemis takes the job and secures the technologies on Roseway, bringing them back to pawn off to the fence. In exchange, Artemis gains the Stellar Bay Navkey, and communicates this with Phineas. He fills Artemis in on exactly what it is they're looking for, and heads off toward Monarch with three new members of the crew (Ellie, Felix, and S.A.M).
Radio Free Monarch: Landing on Monarch, Artemis finds themself looking for a big-game hunter by the name of Nyoka, who can lead her to the location of the Information Broker. Artemis finds Nyoka at The Yacht Club, and helps her overcome her hangover by "borrowing" a bottle of Caffenoids from the local clinic. The pair reach the Devil's Peak Station via the safer, cavernous path, and convince the C3 mercenary company to help them get past the marauders who took the station hostage. The Information Broker, once the area is clear, tells Artemis and Nyoka that his hands are tied between the two planetary factions (MSI and the Iconoclasts), and that he can't deliver the location of the chemicals until the airways are clear. Artemis starts by treking back to Stellar Bay, where they help Sanjar retrieve the weapons technology and clear his name. On the way back to Devil's Peak Station, Artemis stops by the Iconoclast encampment and helps Graham and Zora recover their missing team and start up the printer. With both factions seemingly placated, they return and jumpstart the radio tower. Hiram follows through and transmits the location of the chemicals, and Artemis returns to the Unreliable with Nyoka on board the crew. They allow the crew to catch up on their own, disappearing to the captain's quarters to speak with Phineas about the next steps in their plan.

PERIL ON GORGON

The Ones Who Walk Away from Gorgon: While docked at Monarch, Artemis receives a package from the Halcyon Parcel Service. Upon opening the package, Artemis and crew discover a severed arm and phonograph awaiting them. On the phonograph is a cryptic message from Hawthorne’s associate, Lucky Montoya, about a job involving the Ambrose family and danger ahead. They also receive coordinates for Ambrose Manor and meet Wilhelmina Ambrose. Through her, they learn that she contracted Lucky to find her mother’s journal after the alleged death of the matriarch. She gives them a Navkey to Gorgon, where they find Lucky’s case notes in a decrepit saloon/hotel called the Sprat Shack. In the notes is a code to the safe in the corner, where the captain finds a perfectly preserved eyeball and hints to visit the Office of Creative Incubation. Upon investigation, they find transmissions on the administrative terminal and are contacted by a mysterious and threatening figure.

The Ambrose Intersection: Horrified by everything they have discovered on Gorgon, and the arguments over the Aether, Artemis is furious with both Olivia and Wilhelmina. They travel to Ambrose Manor to confront Wilhelmina, and it is just as they are about to breach the security door that they remember Oliva’s concerns about the fate of her daughter. Through their attempts to talk Wilhemina down, Artemis realizes that the two could work together and solve the issues that the projects on Gorgon have caused. The task is not easy, but with Artemis’ silver tongue, the mother-daughter duo team up and retreat to Ambrose Manor. Upon seeing the captain again, the duo tells them that they are working on mending their relationship and discussing ways to humanely treat the Marauders. With that promise made, Artemis returns to the Unreliable and sets their sights on greater ventures.

MURDER ON ERIDANOS

No Night Without Stars: After docking at Stellar Bay once more to purchase supplies, Ada notifies Artemis that there was an Aetherwave transmission and that she would like for the captain to see it. Intrigued, Artemis sits down to discover through the transmission that famed actress Ruth Bellamy, otherwise known as Halcyon Helen, was murdered. Before Artemis can inquire about the situation, an incoming transmission from Administrator Ludovico, Sedrick Kincannon, and Constable Keeley comes in. The trio wants Artemis to investigate the murder, knowing of them through their journey across Halcyon. Artemis, still confused as to why they were the team’s first choice, accepts the mission and travels to Eridanos after stocking up.

Captain, Go Home: Now that Administrator Ludovico and his parasite queen are dead, and the cure for the parasite seeping into the atmosphere, Artemis says their goodbyes to Ruth and Sedrick before returning to the Unreliable. Now, the captain has their sights on skipping the Hope and taking the fight to the Board once and for all.

Kept Secret but Not Forgotten: [WIP]
Brave New World: After receiving the transmission and finding out the truth in Phineas’ lab, Artemis calls off all bets and gathers the crew one last time to discuss their mission. The road ahead leads to one place: Tartarus. Boarding a planet such as Tartarus is no easy feat, given the intense atmosphere and guaranteed Board presence. Yet the team is determined, and it is up to them to infiltrate the prison and rescue Phineas. Artemis gives their Captain’s ID to Ada and wishes her well before a transmission from the UDL comes in. Artemis takes this opportunity to scan the UDL trooper’s ID cartridge, creating an opportunity for them to disguise themselves whilst breaking through the prison. Upon exiting the Unreliable for what feels like their last time, Artemis is surprised to learn that those they have helped have joined them in the fight and are storming the prison alongside them. Artemis takes advantage of the disguises for themself and their crew, allowing them all to create a two-front battle within the Pit. They fight through the prison, joining the rioting forces to push through to the administrative section of the prison. The crew comes across Chairman Rockwell in the midst of recording a message to the colony. Through confronting Rockwell, they intimidate the Chairman into standing down by stating they will get to Phineas one way or another. Rockwell offers to let them slip by, promising a sponsor within the Board’s council if they let him live. Artemis declines, and a fight ensues in which they take down Chairman Rockwell once and for all. Artemis finally finds the elevator and confronts Adjutant Akande. Artemis stands their ground against the Adjutant, informing her that her research into the Program was flawed and that it’s hopeless to stand against them. Akande cuts the transmission and unleashes an automechanical warden onto the crew as a last resort. The team barely escapes, and finds themselves face to face with Adjutant Akande. Artemis has no choice but to kill the Adjutant, and with that, they have saved Phineas Welles from the Board’s custody. Artemis learns how dire the situation truly is from Phineas, and agrees to aid Phineas in reviving the Hope’s colonists.
