MISC. INFO

Briar’s infection continued through its final stages post-Biohazard, and they have since died and been revived by the mold. As a result, Briar has incredible regenerative abilities, heightened senses, and heightened strength.

BACKGROUND.

Briar’s upbringing was fairly uneventful, with their passion for the arts being encouraged by her parents. They were a loner type throughout their schooling, more focused on their personal successes and planning ahead for the future. Upon graduating, Briar attended a two-year university program and began their career in investigative journalism. Their work was simple for the most part, though increasing rumors of the presence of bio-organic weapons across the globe had caused them to grow curious. One such incident that attracted Briar’s attention was the disappearance of a film crew in Dulvey Parish, Louisiana.

RESIDENT EVIL 7: BEGINNING HOUR

Part of an independent investigative journaling agency, Briar finds themselves waking up in a mysterious household in the midst of Louisiana after a night of staking out the property. While investigating the empty home, Briar finds a videotape titled “Derelict House Footage”. A few moments pass before they can find a tape player, and what Briar sees surprises them.

The recording starts on June 1, 2017, at 10:23PM. It is a rehearsal tape for the show Sewer Gators, investigating the “Dulvey Haunted House” with crew members cameraman Clancy Jarvis; anchorman Peter Walken, and producer Andre Stickland. In order to rehearse for the show, they decide to break into the house and investigate. They wander around the house, while Andre and Pete converse about the house’s history. The house is said to have been abandoned for three years and was originally owned by the quiet Baker family, consisting of Jack, Marguerite, and their son Lucas, the latter of whom is described as a bad seed.

Shortly after the dialogue, Andre wanders off and disappears. When Pete and Clancy notice his absence, they walk around the building to investigate. After some time wandering, they find a secret passage, revealed by activating a lever hidden in a fireplace. The secret passage leads to a ladder to an underground area. Pete sends Clancy down first “to get a nice hero shot of [him] coming down the ladder”. Clancy reaches the bottom to find Andre facing a wall on the other side of the room. Moving closer, it becomes clear Andre is dead, and his corpse falls on top of Clancy. A man comes out of the shadows and moves towards Clancy, with screaming lingering for several seconds as audio, the video is cut.

Curious to uncover what happened, Briar continues their investigation of the property. Unbeknownst to the journalist, they are not the only one navigating the decrepit ruins of the home. Rather, others linger in the shadows. As Briar navigates the areas detailed in the footage, they find themselves face to face with the mysterious, shadowed figure shown in the tapes. Turning to escape, Briar is confronted by Jack Baker, who renders them unconscious after welcoming them to the family. When they wake up, they are bound in a room alongside Clancy Jarvis and Peter Walken, who finds a knife and attempts to free them. However, Peter is stabbed in the chest by a woman in the process, and the woman moves toward Briar, who narrowly avoids an attack by tilting the chair to fall over. Thankfully, the bindings were cut enough to snap under the pressure, and a chase ensues as Molded step out of the shadows and attempts to catch their latest victim. Briar manages to find refuge in the attic and flee, however it is not long before their wounds catch up to them. Dark mold mixes with blood, causing Briar to collapse at the feet of Jack Baker, who taunts them before grabbing their weak body and dragging them off.

RESIDENT EVIL 7

Now a victim of Jack Baker, Briar is forced to undergo the brutal infection caused by exposure to the mold. For most of the plot line, Briar is growing increasingly sick and susceptible to the mind-controlling abilities of the mold, often acting in the command of Jack Baker in his tirade against Ethan and Mia Winters. Upon the defeat of the plague within the Dulvey Parish, Briar finds themselves on the run as the infection begins to take over in its final stages. They are nearly caught by the BSAA as they evacuate the area, though narrowly escapes their clutches before collapsing once more, seemingly dying as the mold takes over every cell within their body. When they awaken, the world around them is in ruins, and their physical appearance has now mutated to reflect the revival induced by the mold.

RESIDENT EVIL 8: VILLAGE

Moving to Europe after the close calls with the BSAA in Louisiana, Briar found themselves in an isolated village in Romania. They took up work as a shoemaker and tanner, earning a small reputation among the townsfolk for their affordable prices and quality work. However, many also tended to question the legitimacy of the business due to the questionable nature of its owner. Eventually, Briar’s residence caught the attention of Mother Miranda, who had recognized the effects of the Mold when she saw them. Delighted to have such a viable specimen, Miranda manipulated Briar into willingly being infected with the Cadou. Briar’s initial progress seemed promising, with the lingering effects of the Mold only growing stronger as the parasites settled into their new host. Though upon realizing that Briar would not be capable of producing the perfect specimen, after complications arose and Briar beginning to show signs of turning into a Moroaică, Miranda cast them back to their home within the Village and ultimately abandoned them. As one of the later experiments of Mother Miranda (prior to her abduction of Rose Winters), the transformation did not complete itself and render Briar mentally incompetent. Rather, they have undergone some of the physical mutations (e.g. elongated extremities resembling claws and notable weight loss) while also gaining the need to feed on the blood of live prey for sustenance.

Briar returned to their home with a sense of disgust at their being and has turned this disgust into anger toward Mother Miranda.
