Born in the bustling city of Busan, Hyejin grew up with access to various opportunities to pursue xyr passions. Xe had a fascination with technology from a young age, inspired by the rapid digitalization of daily life that came with the turn of the 21st century. When xe graduated from high school, xe attended the Busan Institute of Science and Technology to earn xyr Major in Automobile High-tech Automotive Engineering. For the first year after graduation, Hyejin hardly had to worry about securing employment and had managed to land a contracted job with a reputable automotive distributor. However, the benefits of this contract would be short-lived between the company’s legal battles regarding energy efficiency and environmental protection. The following months came with a plethora of changes to the contractual obligations, and Hyejin found xemself with incredibly low wages, long work hours, and limited benefits. This, atop the increasing interest xyr university debt was gathering and xyr mother’s loss of job, began to put a financial strain on the Ch'on family. It was only amplified when Hyejin was laid off from the company, leaving xem to begin a long, unsuccessful job hunt in xyr district.
Disgruntled with the lack of work, Hyejin found xemself awaiting the subway home when xe was approached by a man with a briefcase. The man offered to play a game of Ddakji with xem while they waited for the train, and Hyejin curiously agreed. Hyejin picked to throw the red card, and after more than enough rounds to last xem a lifetime, xe had finally managed to win the cash offered at the beginning. In addition to the cash, the mysterious man handed Hyejin a business card with a phone number, instructing xem to call should xe decide to facilitate more games of this nature. Upon getting home that evening and splitting the money with xyr parents, Hyejin called the number and officially entered the game.
When xe awoke after the long car ride, xe was given a number, a room, and a handful of items including a pink jumpsuit, mask with a circle, and a gun. From then on, Hyejin has been assigned the role of guard within the game, and hesitantly awaits to see what comes next.
