MISC. INFO

Marion has a naturally strong paternal instinct.

Marion has a lot of prior experience with hunting, tracking, operating ATVs, and using crossbows due to growing up in the woodlands with his father. However, his firearm skills are relatively subpar due to only having recently joined the force.

After liberating John’s region of Hope County, Marion has the word “Wrath” crudely tattooed across his chest.

Marion’s PTSD and the conditions that caused it to develop result in him having numerous triggers, including: Having his neck touched in any capacity, the song “Only You” (as well as any songs that may sample it), having his head underwater, loud and sudden noises.

Marion’s PTSD manifests through the following reactions/behaviors: Acute Hyper-Vigilance, Insomnia, Nightmares, Violence-Related Intrusive Thoughts, Vivid Flashbacks, Inability to Concentrate, and Physical Pain, Sweating, and Nausea.

BACKGROUND.

Marion is a newly recruited, on-probation Sheriff’s Deputy of the Hope County Sheriff’s Department who is sent to help serve a federal arrest warrant in Hope County, Montana. He joined the force when he turned 19, and has only gotten just 2 years of experience under his belt before being sent with Marshal Burke, Sheriff Whitehorse, and fellow deputies Hudson and Pratt, to arrest Joseph Seed, a radical preacher who is the head of Eden’s Gate. Though Joseph appears to go willingly when they make the arrest, the situation quickly escalates when the cult responds to the arrest with violence and crashes the group’s helicopter.

In the ensuing chaos, Deputy Hudson is captured, Deputy Pratt and Sheriff Whitehorse disappear, but Marshal Burke and the Deputy manage to escape the standoff, with Joseph calling for a manhunt to locate them. Following a botched escape attempt to leave the county on road, Marshal Burke is also captured by the cult, while the Deputy is taken away by Dutch, who promptly cuffs them to a bedpost until he decides whether to turn them over to the cult. He eventually decides to trust the Deputy, so he supplies them a new set of clothes in order to blend in better among the locals, and asks their assistance to liberate his island, thus kick-starting the resistance movement in Hope County.

Marion’s canon ending is the “Walk Away” ending.

FAR CRY NEW DAWN

After an intense fight with Eden’s Gate, Marion gave in to Joseph Seed’s preaching and walked away. Joseph forgave him and his friends for their transgressions against Eden’s Gate and, being a man of his word, freed Pratt, Whitehorse and Hudson and let them go at the cost of the greater Resistance now being under his control. However, shooting was heard as the Sheriff’s Department leave the compound, leaving the fate of the Resistance mostly unknown. Whitehorse said they weren’t going to abandon them and vowed that they would come back with the National Guard to free Hope County by force. Yet when they left, things took a turn for the worst. Whitehorse turned on the truck’s radio for the long trip back to civilization, not knowing that “Only You” would begin to play, thus triggering the classical conditioning Jacob trained Marion with. Marion was the sole survivor of the vehicle crash he caused.

Marion, alone and wracked with guilt (and with a moderate concussion), found the nearest town and did everything he could to get assistance from the National Guard. He was admitted into a psych ward in an attempt to reverse the classical conditioning. It began to work, and it wasn’t long before news reached him of the National Guard taking the compound by force and—to Marion’s surprise—found all the Resistance members alive and well. Yet also to his surprise, Joseph was still hellbent on his prophecy and unleashed nuclear hellfire onto the earth. The Collapse that the cult were preparing for had finally happened, and Marion was escorted to a National Guard bunker with others in their care.

Then the world went dark for the unforeseeable future.

When the doors opened again, Marion found himself in a new world. Endless black rain and wind have given way to blue skies and blooming flora. Humans that survived the bombs now worked to rebuild, forming communities across the country. And Marion returned home to Hope County, looking for any solace in the form of ally-ship with those he’d come to love before the bombs fell. He eventually found Prosperity, and settled in alongside Kim Rye and Carmina, and does everything in his power to protect them from new looming threats.
