MISC. INFO

Florence takes the illegal counterpart to Joy, named Sunshine. The drug conceals one's Downer status from most Doctors, who have been trained and/or biologically changed to smell the chemical changes within folk.

Florence is tri-lingual, speaking English, French, and German.

BACKGROUND.

Florence was once a “normal” baker, bound to be wed to a charming man when he was drafted into the war. During this period of time, Florence discovered that she was with child and ended up raising her son, Fletcher, on her own. Just a few months after his birth, she learned her husband had died on the battlefield.

Years went by and the situation grew dire, so much so that citizens were required to give up their young children to the Germans as a way to settle the armistice between Britain and the other nation. This day became known as “The Very Bad Thing”, and citizens were forced to consume a drug named Joy. This drug blocked out the memories of the Very Bad Thing, but not without heinous side effects. Many who remembered the incident would be hospitalized due to shock, the sheer emotional trauma that suddenly rushed in, causing their bodies to react viciously, and sometimes even fatally. Florence, however, could not stomach the drug for long. She built a tolerance to it, and memories began to come back in fragmented pieces. However, it was illegal to go off of Joy, and there were no substitutes that could block out the past.

Florence secretly went off Joy, becoming what many refer to as a Downer, and began taking its street counterpart, Sunshine, to avoid being arrested and forcibly medicated. She spends her days making Joy-infused goods, but sells standard goods on the down-low to other Downers within the city. It is her goal to escape the city and hope to find her son once more.
