Jodie’s homestead has a basement in which she conducts her “autopsies”, and is where her general base of operations is. It's quite often a body will be stored down there in a freezer.
Throughout her educational program in Baltimore, Jodie did internships at local funeral homes as a mortuary assistant.
Jodie's routine handling of fresh bodies and organs, in addition to her regular consumer base being of particular individuals, has sparked a curiosity toward cannibalism. Despite this curiosity, she has not (yet) made the leap and does not have concrete plans on personally preparing a meal of her own. She could be swayed to try someone else's cooking, however.
Jodie Kane was born to fairly affluent parents living their retirement in Washington state's suburbia. She grew up unremarkable, breezing through her education and eventually enrolling in a state college to begin a mortuary science program. This decision required her to leave her family home, and thus she moved to Kirkland to attend the Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWIT). While attending LWIT, she met Brayden Tate, a fellow mortuary science student with a passion seemingly as great as her own. The two quickly became inseparable, and eventually began to pursue a romantic relationship with one another.
However, as quick as their love had blossomed, it wilted.
Brayden took Jodie under his wing, and effectively cut off her own. She became more isolated, and focused less on her studies to appease her partner, who took advantage of her emotionally, physically, and sexually (though the latter was a rare occurrence, as he often sought out other avenues of gratification). Social circles she managed to land herself in were just as quick to cast her out, be it jealousy of being Brayden's partner or through rumors of an "eccentric nature" that made her unstable to be around. Regardless, the reality was that there was simply no love between the duo, and things only got worse as it came to light that Brayden was previously tried and non-convicted for domestic abuse. Enough became enough, and Jodie sought a way out.
And Brayden took notice.
One morning, after he had found out through mutual acquaintances that she went to the police in an attempt to file a protective order against him, he violently confronted her in their shared apartment. The confrontation grew physical, with Brayden nearly killing Jodie in the process. Narrowly escaping a fatal blow to the temporal region by dodging the lamp swung at her had caused Jodie to snap, and she was no longer fighting for her escape. She was fighting for her survival. It didn't take her long to make it to the kitchen island, where breakfast patiently awaited the two, and grab the bread knife sat atop it. Jodie attacked Brayden, and she won the ensuing fight. He was dead within minutes. Yet despite the circumstances, and the evidence in her favor, Jodie was ultimately convicted for his death, which lead to her expulsion from LWIT. This closed the door on Jodie's dream of becoming a mortician, though opened up a new one that she would not have expected.
While incarcerated, Jodie festered on the incident and the lack of justice. Likewise, she heard many stories that were similar to hers, and realized that the problem was much larger than it had ever seemed. And, if she were honest with herself, it felt good to bring an end to a life like Brayden's. To end a life that was, in the grand scheme of things, worthless. Wasteful. Something changed inside of Jodie, and she knew what she would do from that day forward.
After her sentence ended, Jodie moved across the country and found herself in Wolf Trap, Virginia. She had figured moving far from Washington state would allow her a fresh start, and it did. She enrolled in the Community College of Baltimore County's mortuary science program, and excelled with flying colors. She bounced around jobs before settling into a position as a funeral home director within Baltimore, though this wasn't the only thing she'd occupied herself with, as the routine did not distract her from her feelings toward her past. Commuting between her homestead in Wolf Trap and the city of Baltimore gave her an advantage, and she did well to make use of it.
Thus, the legend of the Baltimore Vixen was born.
Jodie would spend her off time in the city, frequenting its more popular districts and attracting the attention of less than savory men, much like Brayden. She followed headlines of domestic abuse and sexual assault, conducting her own investigations through the presence of crime blogs hosted across the Surface and Deep Webs, and inserted herself into them as subtly as she could. Small coffee shop conversations with mutual acquaintances, running into the man and acting oblivious to his story, and much more. Then, she hunted them. Stalked them and made them examples of what "true" justice looked like. She would take photographs of her deeds, posting them anonymously or selling them off to interested parties. Likewise, if the opportunity provided, she would simply take the body for herself, putting her expertise to use as she broke them down piece by piece to either dispose of, or to (once more) sell to parties who were willing to pay her price. As such, she's garnered an interesting list of clientele, and takes pride in knowing such.
