Raised in Zuzu City, Jody lived a busy life alongside his parents and younger brother. One parent was always out of the home working, with his father often working night shifts and his mother working during the day. Jody picked up household responsibilities where needed, though the family had help from the child’s grandfather who offered to watch the kids during the summer and winter at his ranch. Jody and Alijah had a close relationship with their grandfather, and the duo eventually began to work on the ranch when they’d reached their teen years. During his teen years, Jody came out to his family and was met with mixed reactions. By far, his brother was the most supportive of the immediate family members.
When the duo graduated high school, the brothers took up employment with Joja Corporation. Their time spent at the family ranch became less and less and the days seemed to be going by sluggishly. Alijah was promoted up into the higher ranks of the corporation, transferring to a management position in one of Zuzu City’s larger Joja Marts. Jody spent most of his time within one of the corporation’s distribution centers, where the mundane 9-5 schedule began to take its toll. While the money and insurance were nice, enough to help him kickstart his medical transition process, it wasn’t worth the mental stress and anxiety that began building. His breaking point was when his grandfather passed away. He had visited the family ranch on the night his grandfather died, and was accompanied by the rest of the family during his grandfather’s final moments.
Unfortunately, Jody did not get time to properly grieve as the demands from work grew increasingly long and difficult, and he was unable to give his family the time they deserved. Unable to take it anymore, he began looking into other careers. He’d hoped to find something that would allow him room to breathe, and it was at that moment Jody remembered the letter that his grandfather had left him. After reading the letter, and realizing that his grandfather had left the farm to him, Jody bolted from his cubicle and quit on the spot, rushed home to his apartment to pack, and grabbed the next bus to Stardew Valley.
Now the owner of Shady Oaks Ranch, Jody dedicates his time to restoring the farm to its former glory and connecting with his roots.
