BACKGROUND.

Born and raised in Albuquerque, Joel was the newest addition to the Delgado family. He was a bubbling baby boy, and loved to spend his days out and about in the desert alongside his older brother Elijah, who’d already been in college around the time Joel was learning how to walk. He excelled in his courses in school, had a quickly developing social life, and proved to be the brains between the two whilst his brother was more oriented in securing a career in sports. However, things started to take a turn when Joel entered middle school and his grades started to slip. Learning in the classroom started to grow harder for Joel. Not due to subject, but due to the way instruction happened. Mandatory school examinations revealed that Joel had begun to lose a considerable amount of his hearing, and further examinations by medical professionals revealed that Joel had Otosclerosis. A bone in his middle ear had developed in a way that removed its ability to vibrate and, therefore, had caused him to lose the ability to hear in his right ear. Eventually, he had to receive one for his left ear as well, and Joel was considered moderately deaf by the time he graduated from high school.

After graduating, Joel decided to put his academic skills to use and enrolled in New Mexico State University (NMSU) to earn his Bachelor of Criminal Justice. He applied to the local DEA offices for a position and was accepted, and moved out toward Quantico to train through the federal program. At the same time, he enrolled back into NMSU to begin working on his Master of Criminal Justice. It wasn’t long before Joel found himself working for the DEA, traveling across the country and working to complete his degree before moving back to Albuquerque after hearing that the situation there was growing serious.

Rumors began to spread of numerous big cartel players appearing in the shadows of Albuquerque. One group was known well enough, and the other walked beneath the noses of the feds. The Salamancas, and Gustavo Fring’s crew. Come 2002, Joel’s primary focus is to aid the DEA in connecting the dots and cutting off the head of the cartel before things get worse.
