description

ISFJ (The Defender) - “ Though sensitive, Defenders have excellent analytical abilities; though reserved, they have well-developed people skills and robust social relationships; and though they are generally a conservative type, Defenders are often receptive to change and new ideas. As with so many things, people with the Defender personality type are more than the sum of their parts, and it is the way they use these strengths that define who they are. Defenders take their responsibilities personally, consistently going above and beyond, doing everything they can to exceed expectations and delight others, at work and at home.

Defender personalities are a wonderful group, rarely sitting idle while a worthy cause remains unfinished. Defenders’ ability to connect with others on an intimate level is unrivaled among Introverts, and the joy they experience in using those connections to maintain a supportive, happy family is a gift for everyone involved. They may never be truly comfortable in the spotlight, and may feel guilty taking due credit for team efforts, but if they can ensure that their efforts are recognized, Defenders are likely to feel a level of satisfaction in what they do that many other personality types can only dream of. “

Overview

Born and raised in the more populated region of Russia, Konstantin lived a bleak and bitter life alongside his father. His father, Avian, was physically and emotionally abusive as a result of undiagnosed PTSD from his time as a commanding officer within the Red Army. Early on, the abuse was focused on Konstantin’s mother, though it was not long before she caved to the pressure and took her own life. She died with the mindset that the Russian police would not aid her nor her son should she attempt to report the abuse, and that much was confirmed by the way her death was handled. Konstantin was too young to remember his mother or the person she was, though he was old enough to internalize the intense grief of losing a parent. Without his wife around, Avian’s new target became his own son. As Konstantin grew up, he had taken an interest in education and law, though the interests were belittled by Avian for not being “masculine enough” career paths. This was one of many justifications Avian felt he had for treating his son the way he did, and unfortunately, his neglect would not stop here. The more Konstantin attempted to become independent of his father and establish a path for himself, the more emotionally volatile his father became. Things ultimately came to a head when a teacher from Konstantin’s school contacted home about “alleged homosexual behavior” from his son. Flown into a fury of disgust, Avian attempted to kill Konstantin when he’d returned home that evening. The confrontation was brutal and short-lived, with Konstantin hardly able to defend himself as his father had thrown him against the wall and slashed at him. It took all of Konstantin’s ability to squirm away from the belligerent man and flee to the confines of his bedroom, where he pushed the bookshelf against the door and hurriedly packed his belongings. Bloodied and sure that he was going to die, Konstantin waited for silence to fill the home before slipping out his window and wandering the streets of his neighborhood to look for help.

It was then that a tall, shadowed figure loomed over him and, once hearing what had happened, took the teen to receive medical help. Konstantin had severe facial trauma from the struggle and had to receive emergency surgery to remove bone fragments from his eye. The procedures to stabilize Konstantin had been successful, though not without consequence. In addition to facial and abdominal scarring from the knife wounds, Konstantin developed Fuchs Heterochromic Iridocyclitis during the recovery process of his optical surgery. As a result, Konstantin’s left iris lost pigment and caused the color to change. Similarly, Konstantin has limited vision in the eye, and the overall trauma to his head caused Konstantin to develop colorblindness.

Konstantin was not left alone during this transition in circumstances, either. The man who had gotten him to the hospital stayed beside him and offered any aid he could. The man revealed his name to be “Allie”, and stated that he would offer to take him in. With nowhere else to go, Konstantin accepted and soon found a new family with Allie and his associates. The group eventually moved to New York, where Konstantin found himself able to attend university and gain degrees in Criminal Law and Teaching & Learning with an emphasis on Adult Learning. While attending university, Konstantin met a man by the name of Joseph and the duo quickly formed a close bond with one another. They started dating not long after graduation, and initially secured employment within the state. He built a fruitful career in law education, able to establish connections with a few notable law firms to connect his students to the field. One such firm was Hamlin-Hamlin & McGill, a prestigious firm based in New Mexico.

The firm’s representative offered Konstantin employment as a consultant with the firm, and he gladly accepted the offer despite the move it would require. This was one of the last times he would see Allie in person, though the two kept in close contact. Additionally, the relationship between himself and Joseph was another deciding factor in the move. The two had moved in together and initially planned to settle in their shared apartment. It took some convincing on Konstantin’s part, but Joseph eventually agreed to follow him to New Mexico in hopes of supporting his partner’s flourishing career.
