Laverne is a fierce woman from Romania, who moved to Los Santos with her family when she turned seven. She grew up in the heart of the city, living in the lap of luxury alongside her parents. Her father built up Canics Corp., a thriving business with its hand grasping the criminal underworld with an iron fist.

On the surface, Canics Corp. is a composite financial institution which underwrites the risk of loss of, or damage to, person and business assets, and life and limb. Operating by pooling risk among numerous policyholders; premiums are based on the probability of a particular even occurring and overseen by the company’s actuarial staff members. However, the further one dug, the company is revealed to be more than meets the eye. Canics Corp. is the center of organized crime in Downtown Los Santos. Illegal cargo, stolen goods, forged documents, and counterfeit cash power the empire hidden behind closed doors. Once owned by Romanian kingpin Cezar Botezatu Alba, Canics Corp. now sits in the hands of his only heir: Laverne Alba.

Laverne’s father was killed in a drive-by shooting when she was 15, and her mother was quick to leave the businesses behind to Laverne so that she could court a rich doctor and return to Europe. The relationship between Laverne and her mother was always strained, as Laverne took more interest in her father’s line of work and, with her mother’s departure and new marriage, the two rarely spoke.

Laverne grew up quickly due to all of this, taking over both businesses and becoming a kingpin in the criminal scene of Los Santos.
