MISC. INFO
Leilani is prone to night terrors, flashbacks, and anxiety attacks, and can often become irritable with others as a result of her trauma. She is also hypervigilant.
As a part of early attempts to control the severity of her PTSD, a therapist recommended that Leilani look into adopting a psychiatric service dog (PSD). Leilani ended up adopting a German Shepherd named Mika, who accompanies Leilani daily.
Leilani’s prosthesis has an i-Limb inspired prosthetic hand, meaning she has control over the movements of individual fingers on her left side. This works by utilizing myoelectric signals, which uses the muscle signals in the patient’s residual arm to move the i-LIMB Hand around.
Leilani speaks Spanish as well as Hawaiian.
BACKGROUND.
Leilani was born and raised in Honolulu to a rather loving family. Her father was an ex-marine turned police chief, and her mother was a cardiologist for the local hospital. She took after her parents in terms of intellect and appearance, accelerating through high school and enlisting in the Marine Corps upon graduation. Leilani worked vigorously to become a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO), taking over the supervision of a rag-tag team of subordinates and traveling from base to base.
Her team was diverse in both appearance and mindset, and it was not long before the group established a familial dynamic as they toured together. At some point during the service, Leilani became involved romantically with Eli and the two had made plans to start a family and marry after their current tour.
One night, during a routine sweep of their base, her and her team noticed a suspicious package in the technical room. It was an IED, and had been detonated while they were removing it. Leilani is the sole survivor of this incident, and as a result she lost her left arm from the elbow down and required an emergency mandatory hysterectomy due to the extensive shrapnel and spreading infection in her abdomen. During recovery, it was revealed to Leilani that the bomb was set and detonated by an enemy operative that had infiltrated the base and slipped within the ranks, though to this day this individual’s identity remains unknown.
She was honorably discharged from duty after the incident at 24. Seeking therapy as suggested by the officer who filed her discharge papers, Leilani has spent the past three years working to find a medication that helps control her PTSD. She currently takes Sertraline at its maximum dosage, however even this is slowly beginning to fail her, as many other medications had in this trial-and-error process.
As of current, she works with the Honolulu Police Department as an S.W.A.T team leader.
