BACKGROUND.

Lý was born deep in the Mojave Wasteland, not in the harsh, sun-scorched open world that many of the desert’s inhabitants knew, but in the dark, metallic bowels of a hidden Brotherhood of Steel bunker. Raised in this militant culture, Lý was instilled with a profound sense of loyalty to the Brotherhood’s code, seeing herself as a protector of humanity’s future, one that depended on controlling and hoarding technology. Her first real taste of war came with the brutal Second Battle of Hoover Dam. It was supposed to be a defining moment in the Brotherhood’s struggle to control the region, a victory for the Mojave Chapter, and for Lý, a step closer to being a full-fledged Knight in the eyes of her peers. But instead, the battle ended in ruin. The Mojave chapter was annihilated by a ruthless combination of Mr. House's Securitrons and the advancing Legion forces. In the aftermath, Lý was one of the few survivors, and her life—once defined by the Brotherhood—was now irrevocably changed.

With nowhere left to go, Lý wandered east, aimlessly at first, haunted by the smell of burned metal and the screams of the fallen. Eventually, she stumbled upon the Brotherhood of Steel's remnants in the Commonwealth. This new chapter was struggling to maintain its power and legacy under the command of Elder Maxson, a charismatic yet harsh leader with a vision of dominance over the wasteland. Lý, desperate to rebuild what had been lost, returned to the only place she’d ever known as home: the Brotherhood.

During her service under the command of Paladin Danse, a man of strength and integrity in her eyes, Lý began to earn back her rank. However, her past was not so easily forgotten. It was a permanent mark, an undeniable testament to the battle between what she had been and who she was becoming. But the true turning point came when Lý learned the horrifying truth about Elder Maxson’s methods. While she had always been loyal to the Brotherhood’s cause, she never fully understood the extent of their cruelty, especially towards the Synths—synthetic humans created by the Institute. These creations, often innocent in nature, were deemed a threat to humanity’s survival and were ruthlessly slaughtered by the Brotherhood to maintain a monopoly on power. The mission that shook Lý to her core, though, was when she learned that Paladin Danse, her trusted mentor, her comrade-in-arms, was a Synth. It was a truth she had never anticipated and could not accept at first. To her, this revelation felt like a betrayal—by the very system that she had believed in, by the man who had stood as her example of righteousness. She faced an agonizing choice: to obey orders and kill Danse or to betray her entire belief system to protect him.

In that moment, Lý made a choice. She turned her back on the Brotherhood, not just for Danse, but also for herself. The weight of the Brotherhood’s corruption and her loyalty to a broken cause was more than she could bear. She fled, seeking refuge in the arms of the Railroad, an organization dedicated to freeing Synths from the Institute’s control. However, her plea for refuge was met with skepticism. The Railroad’s leadership viewed her with suspicion, a soldier of the Brotherhood, one of the very forces they had spent years fighting against. But then Noemi, a Synth who had become an integral member of the Railroad, spoke for her. She urged the Railroad to see beyond the uniform and into the heart of the woman seeking redemption. Reluctantly, they welcomed Lý into their ranks and placed her under the supervision of Noemi.

Over time, the two women became close. Noemi’s compassion and understanding helped Lý find a new purpose, one not defined by the chains of the Brotherhood’s code but by her desire to right the wrongs she had been complicit in. They became partners in every sense—fighting side by side, rescuing Synths, and slowly uncovering the truth behind the Institute's dark intentions. As time passed, their relationship deepened. They became a pair of lovebirds in a ravenous wasteland.

Now, as the two women continue to free Synths from the clutches of the Institute and fight against the Brotherhood's ever-growing cruelty, Lý feels something she thought she had lost forever: a sense of belonging. Though the world around them burns with chaos and violence, she and Noemi stand firm, knowing that they are fighting for a future where all can be free, where no one is treated as less than human—no matter their origin.
