BACKGROUND.

Born in the great Appalachian city of Huntsville, Marjorie was one of millions of children born during the ever-rising tensions between the United States and China. Her days at school became a routine of ducking under the desk and pledging a strict allegiance to the nation. Evenings at home involved listening to the news, watching as government officials discussed the shortage of vital resources and the possibility of a secondary wave of nuclear warfare, citing the horrific massacre of Hiroshima and Nagasaki as a call to the people. Yet still, her life was the best it could have been given the circumstances. Her mother was a nurse working the night shift at the local hospital, and her father was working for the state, so she always had family around during these trying times.

She loved spending what time she could with her family, and had traveled various places alongside them. One place that the family often frequented was Nuka-World, a refreshment oriented amusement park located west of Boston. Marjorie’s favorite section of the park was the Galactic Zone, where she could spend hours learning about the robots and Vault-Tec’s projects.

Marjorie was in middle school, visiting the amusement park once more when they’d received the notice that it was their time to seek shelter. Due to her father’s prior employment with the federal government, the family were given notice of the increasing probability of nuclear Armageddon, and were instructed to act as soon as possible to ensure their preservation. The family moved deeper into the Commonwealth, with no more than a weekend’s worth of luggage, where they were screened and welcomed into Vault 10. Residents were given just a few short days to grow accustomed to their new homes before being put into cryostasis while hellfire rained above.

Once the Overseer had deemed the vault fully secure, residents were removed from stasis and instructed that the vault would remain closed until time had passed. Marjorie now had a whole new world to grow up in. She studied within the vault, regularly attending classes and finishing what would have been a standard education when she was just 16. From there, she spent a year aiding the hydroponics lab in tending to their supplies and learning the intricacies of bio science. It was during this time that her parents decided to separate, and Marjorie eagerly joined her father in his decision to leave the now opened vault to explore the world they’d once known.

It was not long before the duo found themselves at the doorstep of another great entity: The Institute. Having explored the then unoccupied ruins of the Cambridge Institute of Technology, they’d found themselves witnesses to the secretive transportation methods of Institute assets. They were taken in for questioning, and presumably execution, and it was then that their origins were uncovered. Two untouched individuals, and a beacon of knowledge in the concepts of justice and authority.

Rayford and Marjorie were welcomed into the Institute on the condition they were to never leave. While her father worked alongside the Institute’s Synth Retention Bureau (SRB), Marjorie gravitated toward the Biosciences department and began shadowing the project lead, Clayton Holdren.
