MISC. INFO

Missy and W1LDC4RD belong to my partner, Vendetta!

Scottish naming conventions are fairly straightforward, though there is an interesting note to make about Misha and his brother: Their middle name is their mother's maiden name! This practice became common around the 1990s, if research serves correctly.

Misha often wears a specialized brace on his left knee to limit unsafe sideways movement and attempt to keep his knee from dislocating itself. He's had surgery on it in the past to reconstruct some torn ligaments, but it didn't resolve the issue and only made it more painful when the knee does dislocate. Against better judgment, he only uses his cane after a dislocation, not full-time to keep weight off of it.

Unsurprisingly, the reason the surgery didn't work is because the core issue wasn't addressed: Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS), which is a genetic connective tissue disorder often causing joint instability. On top of the recurrent dislocation, Misha experiences chronic fatigue, dizziness when standing up fast, and chronic joint and muscle pain.

Alexithymia is a symptom of many things, from mental health conditions to environmental factors. Misha's is a symptom of his autism, and presents as: difficulty identifying feelings and emotions in himself and others, problems distinguishing between emotions and bodily sensations relating to those emotions, a lack of fantasies and imagination, difficulty coping with stress, and appearing distant, rigid, and humorless. He's made a lot of progress over the years, mostly due to his parents putting him in therapy after his brother's death, but he still struggles and is prone to withdrawing when emotions get too intense as it becomes harder to communicate them.

BACKGROUND.

Born in the old town of Stirling, Misha lived a happy life alongside his parents. Just two years later, they would welcome in another baby boy—naming him Cillian. He and Misha were practically inseparable, always glued to the hip and always up to shenanigans alongside one another. As young, school-aged children, they would often spend their days window shopping at the Thistles Shopping Centre or wandering along the River Forth. Unfortunately, their time together was violently cut short when they would find themselves at the wrong place at the wrong time. They had heard rumors of Big Mags and the Haney family, but much after the matriarch's arrest for covertly running a drug trafficking organization. It was news to them that the Haney family's extended contacts wouldn't cease their imperical operations, though. They would be walking home one evening, staying out late at one of the local libraries to study for upcoming exams, when all of a sudden commotion rang out from the side alley. Slowing out of fear, they would end up witness to a violent robbery. And when the perpetrator realized there were witnesses, they would become the next targets. Misha tried to get Cillian to run, but he'd frozen in place, and it was too late for Misha to turn and grab him. Cillian would die at just 13 years old.

Throughout his teenage years, Misha would be put into therapy for the traumatic event. He had already expressed difficulties with his emotions, but these difficulties quickly became unmanageable when such a heavy weight was placed on his shoulders. While it did help him learn to express what he was feeling and how frustrated he felt, it wasn't enough to help him move on. It was far from it. So, hidden away from the peering eyes of his peers, Misha would try to find ways to deal justice personally. He knew, deep down, he physically do anything himself, but there had to be some way to expose everything to the public and result in a sweeping takedown. To find dirt to dangle over their grave as they dug it themselves.

He would find his answer in the depths of hacktivist forums and poorly-recorded YouTube videos.

Simplistic hacks grew into curious peeping, and soon enough, Misha would develop the necessary skills to access CCTV footage archives. From there, he would spend tireless hours identifying the figure in the video, and would piece any public information he had together to build a file. Once he had enough, he went digging. It started with a simple email and a virus-tainted document. 'Just need you to approve the budget for this month's wait staff,' he wrote, disguising himself as the perpetrator's personal financial advisor. And, with surprising ease, the document would be opened and Misha would be tapped into his network. From there, he dug through every file possible, copying them to his computer and archiving the worst of the worst into a doxx bin. When he was ready to strike, he did, and he demanded every single penny made from the sale of stolen goods on that night. He knew the exact amount, and he knew the perpetrator did too. When there was pushback, Misha told him flat-out that if he didn't, their entire empire would crumble. Showed him the proof that it would, too. He was sent the laundered money via transfer, and he would laugh in the man's face as he published the information and sent a hard copy to authorities. While it didn't bring Cillian back, it made Misha feel good. Alive. It sparked something in him he hadn't felt in a long, long time.

So, he decided this would be his purpose in life... or at least something to make some good money on the side, as he got what he wanted and wasn't too invested in the matter after the fact.

Misha would take on the pseudonym 'Sentinel' (stylized: 53N71NEL), making himself a known figure on clear web hacking forums for helping with more acceptable forms of hacking and virus curation. Keyloggers, webcam intervention, all of the stuff that granted temporary satisfaction without putting people at too much risk. Anything beyond the files he provided were well beyond his responsibility, he thought. But it didn't give him that same rush his first real job gave him. He realized rather quickly, especially once he'd moved out of his parent's home and into a lonely apartment in Glasgow, that he needed something more. More lucrative. More dangerous. And the Deep Web would give him that.

He spent many months learning the culture, delving into various sites and counter-hacking when he realized he went a little too far. When he could, he'd reverse engineer these hacks and pick them apart to learn how and why they worked so well. When he couldn't, he'd scan through forums in hopes of finding those answers.

And they'd be plastered all over The Black Hat Post.

While it was in its early stages, it served as a sort of congregation for hackers of all hats, pooling their knowledge together anonymously so that their work couldn't be traced back to them. However, as it often happens, the black hat hackers quickly overran the site and morphed it into a request board. The layout was simple: users could post requests for the personal and private details of individuals by uploading any information they had, and hackers would pick it up if they felt the pay was good. All information gathered would be posted directly on the request board, allowing any visitor to view the names, addresses, passwords, emails, and other personally-identifiable information. There weren't any pseudonyms or usernames, but long-term users could begin to tell respondents apart based on the way they presented their information. Misha's signature on his doxxes was a string of seemingly random letters that, while they passed as typos, would spell out his pseudonym when compiled.

It'd serve him well to build notoriety and be personally contacted via encrypted chats, though would also lead to a temporary pause in his work as he got into trouble with authorities after doxxing a government official and her mister. However, he'd simply bite the bullet and take the plea deal, serving his time and deciding to jump ship after the fact.

Finding comfort in the hustle and bustle of big cities, Misha would eventually move to New York City and rent out a dingy little apartment in outer Queens. While it wasn't ideal, it was good enough for what he needed. It had a mostly stable roof, lights, and decent internet. That, and it was pretty much invisible to peering eyes as, unfortunately, slums like this rarely saw the care they needed from the community. Due to the nature of his work, though, that worked well in Misha's favor. And he'd set up shop once again, though this time would take his extensive knowledge of the Deep Web and establish The Gatekeeper. It was a form of supplemental income to cushion the time between hard contracts, giving him access to the computers of those who couldn't answer the questions correctly and letting him dip his sticky fingers into their crypto wallets. It'd earn him more than enough to move somewhere less decrepit, but Misha opted to hold onto the funds and keep a low profile 'just in case.' This low profile, though, would be big enough to earn the intrigue of a person only known as The Shade.

And he'd get Misha's attention real quick when he locked his computer and kept him out of everything but a one on one chat.

The proposition was simple: ViVEX could use someone with his skill, and they wanted to poach him. Figured that a man of Misha's talent would have no problems breaking into CCTV cameras and getting the footage up onto their servers. And, should the need arise, it was made very clear by his past the Misha could pick apart the identities of people in said footage. This knowledge, and his ability to doxx just about anyone based on minimal information, would be useful to an organization like theirs. He'd pay him double what he earned per Black Hat contract, but give him the leeway to keep up his 'side hustle' should he accept. When Misha asked about the catch, The Shade simply sent a string of laughing emojis... and a years' long doxx detailing Misha's very emergence as Sentinel. Naturally, Misha knew well enough to accept the job offer, and he would join ViVEX. Once he regained access to his computer, he found all the software needed to get started.

Over time, Misha would establish a nice workflow between ViVEX's requests and the Black Hat Post. He'd also get into spats with other opportunistic hackers over the CCTV cameras, becoming heated rivals with individuals only known as Missy and W1LDC4RD. He'd also learn of The Shade's new right-hand man, Ronald Evans, though never cared to reach out and get to know him on account of his absolutely miserable profile. That, too, worked in his favor, as he'd later find out that Ronald backstabbed ViVEX and turned to work for some bigshot named Adam. At first, he did find the idea intriguing. After all, Adam clearly had something worth the ire. Ultimately, though, Misha stayed right where he was on account of Ronald's disappearance earning him a cushy promotion to The Shade's first pick. This opened up some nice benefits, including a bump in pay and access to some stronger software now that they learned from Ronald's mistakes. Plus, with a traitor to poach, Misha was personally assigned to interfering with Adam's operations should the competition get a little too curious a little too quickly.
