BACKGROUND.

Born in the small town of Barbourville, Kentucky, Ulyssa lived a simple life among the historic ruins of the American Civil War. She enjoyed her time home with family, picking up many habits from her military parents. From an early age, Ulyssa was trained in survivalism. Her mother taught her how to care for and utilize various firearms, and her father taught her how to homestead. Naturally, with her family's lineage of military service, Ulyssa enlisted in the military upon reaching adulthood. During her service, she served as a staff sergeant and combat medic, navigating the battlefield from various angles. Sometimes, she was on the sidelines, directing those beneath her. Others, she was knee-deep in the action and doing what she could to save those around her.

Unfortunately, her efforts went to waste when on the dawn of October 23rd, 2077, she was ushered into Fort Campbell's vault as the world around her came to its end.

During her time in the Vault, Ulyssa utilized her medical prowess by working in the clinic, where she met Gail Soto. Gail and Ulyssa would go on to form a close bond, and eventually eloped. They went on to have two children, Summer and Harvey, who would be raised in the ruins of Appalachia as the time to leave came.

Setting out into the wastes, Ulyssa and her family found a plot of land near her childhood home to establish a homestead. Things were great for the first handful of months, with the pair establishing a clinical home practice and small community farm. Income was fairly steady given the circumstances, and the radiation hardly seemed an issue. Unfortunately, things would not remain peaceful, as a band of raiders began terrorizing the town's population. Demands for resources and alliances were made, and when refused, homesteads were burned and families slaughtered in the name of 'fairness'. Ulyssa's family was not exempt from this rule, and she returned home from a supply run to find her home burning with her family's bodies inside.

Distraught by the events, Ulyssa left the homestead and traveled, eventually stumbling across a group of survivors from further into Appalachian territory. Reluctant to trust them, though needing supplies, Ulyssa joined their ranks. She learned they were part of the Responders, a volunteer-based disaster relief organization. Seeing their intentions were pure, and knowing she could put her experience to use, Ulyssa officially enlisted with the group as an Emergency Medical Technician.
