BACKGROUND.
Unlike her younger brother, Roman, Valeriya was abandoned from day one.
She was born to an unbeknownst couple and tossed into the foster care system, though rather than find her “forever family”, she was passed from home to home. This constant stress caused her to be a “trouble child”. At the foster care center, Valeriya was a brute of a child, despite keeping to herself. Many would pick fights with her, most of which ended in physical violence and her being bruised and bloodied. In her adoptive homes, she remained distant from the families and never became that “loving little girl” so many had hoped to groom her into being. She became homeless on the streets of Moscow at age 13 when it was ultimately decided that she would be too much trouble to care for, and that she would never be taken in with how many times she was given back to the system.
While she was scavenging for food one day, she came across another child like her. He was just a few years older than she had been, and was terrified of her defensive nature. Though once she had assessed that he was no threat to her, she slowly began to cling to his side. The two formed an odd bond of hunter and gatherer, and soon it developed into a blossoming romantic relationship as the two lived with one another. Her partner was caught and jailed at 18 for crimes unknown.
Upon reaching 18, Valeriya was wandering the streets when a peculiar man approached her and commented on the “look in her eyes”. He extended an offer of shelter and care in exchange for her becoming an employee of his, and she accepted, deciding that anything would be better than the life she lived alone. This man, named Mikhail Lupin, trained her alongside numerous others in a paramilitary organization.
