Winifred knows numerous shanties and can be heard humming them as they work. She’ll also join in with locals if they begin singing them in the town’s bar.

While out in the wilderness and away from the island’s community, Winifred came across a wounded mutt. Taking the dog into her care, Winifred realized that exposure to the Fog made the dog’s ears develop abnormally. She named the dog Rhea and trained her to accompany her on her adventures.

BACKGROUND.

Born in the tight-knit community of Far Harbor, Winifred never knew their biological father as he’d died well before they had turned three. Instead, Winifred was raised by her mother, whom of which had been charmed by a younger rake and roustabout by the name of Nicholas. He lingered through Winifred’s developmental years, a distant father figure with a long list of dirty deeds. He was charming, a womanizer among the Harbor’s residents. He also gambled alongside Old Longfellow, acquiring a mountain of debt before mysteriously vanishing into the fog. It was not long before Winifred and their mother had their residence seized from them to repay the debts, and were left to live in the dank confides of the town’s inn. The conditions made their mother sick, and she died of tuberculosis.

Their mother's last words were of vengeance, instructing the child to hunt this man down and torture him until he finally succumbed.

Winifred fled the town and wandered the harsh wilds on their own, until at age 15 they’d fallen into the Children of Atom’s clutches. Starving and sickly, the Children of Atom took the young child in as an attempt to raise and indoctrinate them into their holy ideology. Yet this did not work, and Winifred simply lent a helping hand where she could, often cleaning the Nucleus between prayer. What had ultimately kept her from succumbing to their indoctrination was her own holy mission: Avenging her mother’s death. And it was not long before her prayers were answered, when a resident of Far Harbor stumbled into the Nucleus after being attacked by wildlife. Winifred helped the man, telling him that they were not of these cultists, and so he offered her a job on the docks, unbeknownst to her motivations on returning to the town. She accepted, and left with little more than radiation burns eating at her skin.

By then, the Fog had thickened immensely and taken many lives, and those who once thrived outside the town’s walls scampered back without much choice. Among the returning residents was Nicholas. Freshly eighteen, Winifred felt herself grow blind with a murderous rage as she trailed him into his home, taking him by surprise and binding him to a chair. She spilled her whole story to him, recounting how her mother died because of his incessant gambling. How she’d hunted for him for so many years, desperate to wrap her hands around him and crush him. And she did. Broke his fingers one by one, gagging him with a thick line of rope and relishing in his pleas. She persisted, bounding his limbs together and dragging him beyond the town’s walls to a nearby homestead. Now abandoned, Winifred dug Nicholas’ grave and buried him alive, leaving no marker as she returned to the docks.

Twenty years have passed since then, and Winifred continues their work within Far Harbor as a privateer and fisherman, often braving the sea to bring the town food and attempt maintaining contact with the Commonwealth.
