BACKGROUND.
Born in Meiling alongside her sister Chao, Xiuying grew up surrounded by nature. Her parents both worked at the Meiling National Forest Park, and it was often that the twins would spend their days wandering the footpaths and studying beneath the trees. They grew up modestly in the mountain town, with Xiuying finding her passion for the arts. She often spent her free time drawing the surrounding scenery. In addition to discovering her passions, Xiuying learned that her family comes from a lineage of fox spirits who lived in the Palace of the Sun and served as messengers to the Queen Mother: Guanyin. The family had always set up small altars on their property to pay respects to the spirits, yet when Shî and Chao came of age, the two had realized they could transform into foxes much like their own mother.
Xiuying eventually began to sell her art to visiting tourists and worked to begin her own small business in order to save up to move to Nanchang and pursue higher education to become a professor of art and design at Nanchang University (NCU). She carries on the traditions of her family, setting up numerous shrines to the fox spirits and acting as a messenger for Guanyin.
