August Recap (2025)

ORIGINALLY WRITTEN: August 2025

NOTES: Welp.

This month felt like I lived a little.

Work has been really steady, as has volunteering. The latter feels a bit bittersweet, as it means there's been a lot of news about trans rights in the United States... and naturally, most of it is negative. That said, we continue to fight for what's right.

Because work has picked up, I was able to get myself a new desk chair that allows me to sit cross-legged. This was worth the investment since I struggle a lot with my legs and posture. Now, I can sit comfortably and not have to worry about accidentally cutting off circulation from my legs.

Beyond that, I've been trying to make an effort to be more social. I've started playing DnD one shots (mini-campaigns) again, and joining random voice chats with friends and new folks alike. It feels nice to exist alongside people.

My mental health had some downs, as is expected. The biggest one, ironically, happened the day I'm writing this (August 31).

My favorite high school teacher was diagnosed earlier this year with a brain tumor, and has been fighting insurance and the local schoolboard alike to be able to cover the costs of treatment while maintaining his job. Unfortunately, his last update was in April. I haven't heard if he passed, and I don't see any indication he did, so I'm grateful for that. Still, between another favorite teacher dying within the past few months, and this... It does hurt a little. This teacher in particular is one who has done so much for me beyond education. He was one of the first to genuinely accept me for who I am, and he helped me through the horrible abuse I faced by an ex-partner. I would share his GoFundMe, but I don't want to doxx myself. Especially since I've donated with my legal name.

So... The world keeps going, and I'm doing my best to stay afloat. I'm starting to swim again, but it will take a long time to get back to shore.
